{"id":190871,"date":"2019-07-01T08:07:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T08:07:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=190871"},"modified":"2019-07-05T06:20:59","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T06:20:59","slug":"expert-vast-majority-of-hate-crimes-are-hoaxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=190871","title":{"rendered":"Expert: Vast Majority of Hate Crimes are Hoaxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Station Gossip \u2013 June 29, 2019<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">You know the narrative: America is a deeply hateful, racist place, and the election of Donald Trump has only emboldened bigots who are a hair-trigger away from showing up with torches for a lynching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">That isn\u2019t much of an exaggeration from what many on the left and in the establishment media frequently imply \u2014 but what if it was almost completely false?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hate-Crime-Hoax-Lefts-Campaign-ebook\/dp\/B07F6RN7Y4\/ref=sr_1_1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>A new book<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>by an expert on hate crimes is throwing cold water on the idea that our country is filled with racial violence. Wilfred Reilly, a professor of political science at Kentucky State University, dug into the facts behind the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">What he found is fascinating. Based on real data, the majority of \u201chate crimes\u201d reported in the media turn out to be false or hoaxes, yet outlets quickly move on to other stories when an incident is disproved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In a thoughtful opinion piece in\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hate-crime-hoaxes-are-more-common-than-you-think-11561503352\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The Wall Street Journal<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>on Tuesday, Jason Riley detailed several examples of those hoaxes and summarized the problem of false hate crimes being reported as fact in the media.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Right after Donald Trump\u2019s election, the SPLC really stoked panic. A pro-gay Episcopal church in Indiana was vandalized w\/\u201cHeil Trump,\u201d a swastika, &amp; an anti-gay slur. Turns out it was the gay organ player who did it. He was only charged w\/a misdemeanor. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QxeOoBHohC\">https:\/\/t.co\/QxeOoBHohC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Andy Ng\u00f4 (@MrAndyNgo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrAndyNgo\/status\/1097020092791934976?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cIn 2012 a popular gay bar in suburban Chicago was destroyed by fire, and the owner cited homophobia as the reason. The same year, black students at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside reported death threats from hate groups and found a noose hanging from a dorm room door,\u201d Riley wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cUltimately, the owner of the bar pleaded guilty to arson and insurance fraud. And a black student at the university confessed to sending racist threats and planting a noose,\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Professor Reilly, the Kentucky State University expert who is also the author of the aptly-named book\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hate-Crime-Hoax-Lefts-Campaign-ebook\/dp\/B07F6RN7Y4\/ref=sr_1_1\">\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Hate Crime Hoax,<\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/a>\u00a0became fascinated by the false crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">As he became skeptical of the reporting on this issue, he did what any good researcher would do: Compile a database and start pouring over the numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThis phenomenon of\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ct\/leftists-turn-fake-hate-crimes-seeing-trumps-america-isnt-bigoted-dems-promised\/\">fake hate crimes<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0did not appear to be small-scale or regionally based,\u201d Reilly said. He detailed many crimes that were first reported as bigotry against sexual or racial minorities across the country, most of which turned out to be fabricated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Here\u2019s the important part: the professor didn\u2019t find just a handful of hoaxes. He discovered that\u00a0<strong>over 70 percent<\/strong>\u00a0of reported hate crimes ended up being hoaxes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cMr. Reilly eventually compiled a database of 346 hate-crime allegations and determined that less than a third were genuine,\u201d Riley noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The data-driven approach to the question led the expert to conclude with \u201cabsolute confidence \u2026 that the actual number of hate crime hoaxes is indisputably large,\u201d as he stated in his book. \u201cWe are not speaking here of just a few bad apples.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">That\u2019s important to remember the next time the news lights up with fresh indignation over yet another alleged hate crime. Yes, some of them are real, but the fakes are occurring frequently enough to warrant skepticism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And the establishment media isn\u2019t helping. Desperate for views and clicks, outlets often run initial reports intended to spark outrage, but then offer precious little coverage when the real facts come out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">That\u2019s exactly what happened with the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ct\/illegals-crossing-the-rio-grande-now-have-to-contend-with-massive-prehistoric-beast\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Jussie Smollett stor<\/strong><\/span>y<\/a>, where left-leaning outlets\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ct\/fox-news-viciously-calls-msnbc-jussie-smollett-coverage-hilarious-image\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>tripped over themselve<\/strong><\/span>s<\/a>\u00a0to push a narrative that was eventually proved false.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe Smollett case isn\u2019t an outlier. Increasingly, it\u2019s the norm,\u201d Riley wrote. \u201cAnd the media\u2019s relative lack of interest in exposing hoaxes that don\u2019t involve famous figures is a big part of the problem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">He\u2019s right. There needs to be accountability for outlets that perpetuate these hoaxes \u2014 and the American people would be wise to take early reports of hate crimes with a grain of salt<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stationgossip.com\/2019\/06\/expert-vast-majority-of-hate-crimes-are.html\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jussie Smollett\u2019s case wasn\u2019t an exception.
