A walkout occurred at an Alaska government meeting Tuesday after an official ended a prayer by uttering the words \u201cHail Satan,\u201d local media reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official, Iris Fontana \u2014 who also happens to be a member of the Satanic Temple \u2014 delivered an invocation ahead of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly\u00a0meeting Tuesday, sealing the prayer with \u201cHail Satan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s cast aside our differences, to use reason, logic, science and compassion to create solutions for the greater good of our community,\u201d Fontana\u00a0said. \u201cIt is done. Hail Satan. Thank you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Almost a dozen people walked<\/a><\/strong><\/span> out in protest, including\u00a0Mayor Charlie Pierce. Additionally, a number of protesters stood outside, local media reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

Technically, the satanic prayer was permissible due to pushes from the\u00a0American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alaska.<\/span><\/p>\n

In October,\u00a0the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that the borough\u2019s previous prayer policy violated the State Constitution. The lawsuit was brought on by the\u00a0American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska. The previous policy only allowed certain groups to deliver the invocation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The borough then passed a resolution to amend their policy at their meeting on November 20 to broaden the scope of eligible invocation providers to better reflect the diversity of beliefs in the borough.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the protesters flew from\u00a0Pennsylvania to protest the satanic invocation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese are just a few of the instances where God has defeated Satan,\u201d\u00a0William Siebenmorgen said<\/a>, according to KSRM.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever the results of the June 18 Rally of Reparation, God will be pleased with our public prayers of reparation,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe want God\u2019s blessings on America, not Satan\u2019s curses. Lucifer is the eternal loser. Let\u2019s keep him out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Satanic Temple made<\/a> headlines in April after the IRS announced that it recognized it as a \u201cchurch,\u201d thereby giving it tax-exempt status.<\/span><\/p>\n
