Ah, California. For decades, the state was what people pictured when they thought of America: Strap a surf board to the top of your woodie, cruise down to the coast while The Beach Boys blast, and soak in the freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

But these days, California has become a bit of a joke. After years of far-left policies and rampant illegal immigration, the golden age of the Golden State is long gone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead, the state that was once the gem of our nation has seen\u00a0spikes in poverty<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0desperate homelessness<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Outbreaks of diseases and drug addiction have\u00a0tarnished its streets<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2014 and now one of California\u2019s most famous cities is facing yet another public health crisis straight out of the third world.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRat-infested piles of rotting garbage left uncollected by the city of Los Angeles, even after promises to clean it up, are fueling concerns about a new epidemic after\u00a0last year\u2019s record number<\/a>\u00a0of flea-borne typhus cases,\u201d\u00a0KNBC News<\/a>\u00a0reported on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

What a liberal paradise! Gee, let me book my ticket today.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being worried about catching typhus from rats is something you probably associate with the Dark Ages, or maybe impoverished regions like Central America and Africa. But thanks to L.A.\u2019s inability to clean up festering trash piles, it\u2019s now the reality for many people right here in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe rodents can carry typhus-infected fleas, which can spread the disease to humans through bacteria rubbed into the eyes or cuts and scrapes on the skin, resulting in severe flu-like symptoms,\u201d KNBC explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Back in October, the news station\u2019s investigative team warned Democrat Mayor Eric Garcetti about the piles of trash that had become infested with disease-carrying rats. Why it takes a television crew to do something about a public health crisis is a story in and of itself, but we digress.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the time, he promised to make sure trash doesn\u2019t pile up like that,\u201d KNBC said. \u201cThe garbage was cleaned after the interview, but conditions have worsened over the next seven months.\u201d Hey, at least it looked good for the cameras.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the same investigative reporters contacted the liberal-run city\u2019s services hotline, they were told that it could take a staggering three months before the trash piles were dealt with. That\u2019s three months too long.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt does pose a public health risk,\u201d Dr. Jeffrey Klausner said. \u201cTrash and food waste attracts rats.\u201d Klausner, an infectious disease specialist from UCLA, also added that large rat populations can spread salmonella and bubonic plague.<\/span><\/p>\n

Raise your hand if you want to get medieval.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRats carrying typhus-infected fleas were found around LA last fall, according to county health department records obtained by [KNBC],\u201d the station reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reporters added that \u201cthere is no plan or program to control the growing rat population that feasts at trash piles like the one on Ceres Avenue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The response from city bureaucrats? Eh, get used to it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something that we\u2019ll look into,\u201d said Pepe Garica from the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation. Yeah, they\u2019ll get right on that.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t walk down the street without thinking that a flea could jump on me,\u201d a local business owner named Estela Lopez told KNBC. This has become the reality in living in the most populous city in California.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep this situation in mind the next time a liberal politician gives you their latest election pitch. Call it an experiment in leftism: The downward spiral of Los Angeles and California overall should be Exhibit A for what happens when their policies run amok.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet those politicians never seem to acknowledge the disastrous results of their own worldview. You\u2019re supposed to just ignore what\u2019s happening and keep voting for more immigration, more government handouts, more unrestrained spending.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLiberalism: We put the RAT in Democrat.\u201d Okay, maybe that slogan won\u2019t catch on, but it\u2019s time for the American people to pay attention.<\/span><\/p>\n
