Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Israel is planning to settle some 250,000 settlers in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights over the next 30 years, the <em>Israeli Broadcasting Authority<\/em> (<em>IBA<\/em>) revealed yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to <em>Anadolu<\/em>, the report comes one week after US President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20190321-breaking-trump-says-time-for-us-to-recognize-israeli-sovereignty-over-golan\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>recognising<\/strong><\/span><\/a> the Golan Heights as \u201cIsraeli territory\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to the <em>IBA<\/em>, the Israeli plan also includes construction of two new Jewish settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, along with thousands of new settlement units and a raft of planned transport and tourism projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The population of the occupied Golan Heights currently stands at some 50,000, including 22,000 settlers, according to Israeli figures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Israel, which annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, has long pushed Washington to recognise its claim over the strategic plateau, which it seized from Syria during the <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20170605-remembering-the-naksa\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>1967 Arab-Israeli War<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, but previous US administrations had refrained from doing so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20190402-israel-to-house-250000-settlers-to-occupied-golan-heights\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are currently 22,000 settlers in the Golan Heights.
