Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Hundreds of migrants have stormed a train station and clashed with riot police in Greece as part of an attempt to reopen a land route to Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Mothers carrying their babies were seen running from tear gas while fires were started amid chaotic scenes\u00a0in the village of Diavata, close to the Greek border with Northern Macedonia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Migrants had gathered in the field hoping to make their way illegally up through the Balkans towards northern Europe. It followed\u00a0reports on social media of plans for an organised movement to cross Greece&#8217;s northwest border with Albania in early April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In Athens, refugees were seen lying on train tracks shouting &#8216;Germany!&#8217; and &#8216;open the borders&#8217; in a separate protest at the main railway station in Athens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Separately, migrants holed up in Turkey were heading towards that country&#8217;s border with Greece following false rumours that Ankara had opened its border gate. Turkish authorities have detained nearly 1,200 migrants there, Turkish media reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">By Friday morning migrants had set up more than 100 tents in the field at Diavata. A crowd trying to make its way towards the Greek border scuffled with police who responded with tear gas. TV footage showed shrubs burning nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;It&#8217;s a lie that the borders will open,&#8217; Greek Migration Minister Dimitris Vitsas told Greek state television, urging migrants to return to their accommodation centres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In Athens, a group of about 50 migrants squatted on the tracks of the capital&#8217;s main railway station shouting &#8216;Germany!&#8217; and &#8216;Open the borders.&#8217; Several more were at the station under heavy police presence. Services from the station were suspended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;We want to go to Thessaloniki and then to the borders,&#8217; said Amin Omar, a 27-year-old Iraqi Kurd sitting on the tracks. &#8216;We don&#8217;t know if they are open.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The situation revived memories of the 2015 migrant crisis, when more than one million people, mostly fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and beyond, travelled via Turkey, Greece and the Balkans towards wealthy western Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Turkey drastically curtailed that exodus in 2016 under a deal with the EU. Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The migrants, mostly Afghan, Iranian or Pakistani, referred to themselves as the &#8216;Convoy of Hope&#8217;, it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Some 700 migrants were also caught in the neighbouring province of Tekirdag after police were positioned on the highway in the direction of Edirne, Demiroren News Agency said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Authorities were not immediately available to confirm the reports.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Reuters Television footage shot on Wednesday showed Turkish policemen in plain clothes chasing migrants around train tracks and putting them on to buses. Another group, who were sent back to Turkey after illegally crossing into Greece, anxiously waited to be sent to a repatriation centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The protest in Greece today occurred a day after clashes broke out near a camp for refugees and migrants in the country, after protesters tried to break through a police cordon and reach the border with North Macedonia, which has been fenced off and heavily policed for the past three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The German humanitarian group Sea-Eye (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/europeanpost.co\/ngo-rescue-operations-encourage-traffickers-says-eu-borders-chief-but-soros-still-funds-them\/\">which has been linked to George Soros<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and may even be funded by him) says it is asking Berlin to use diplomatic channels to find a safe port for the 64 migrants it rescued off Libya earlier this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Sea-Watch (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/sovereignnations.com\/2018\/03\/24\/soros-immigration-network-exposed-italy\/\">also reportedly sponsored by George Soros<\/a><\/strong><\/span>) spokesman Carlotta Weibl said Friday that the rescue boat Alan Kurdi remains in international waters off Lampedusa and will not approach Italy&#8217;s southernmost island until it has permission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">She said conditions on board were worsening and that a storm was approaching.
