{"id":185627,"date":"2019-03-23T06:57:29","date_gmt":"2019-03-23T06:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=185627"},"modified":"2019-03-27T06:32:49","modified_gmt":"2019-03-27T06:32:49","slug":"us-government-warns-of-historic-widespread-flooding-through-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=185627","title":{"rendered":"US Government Warns Of Historic, Widespread Flooding \u201cThrough May\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Michael Snyder \u2013 The Economic Collapse March 22, 2019<\/h1>\n<div id=\"attachment_185628\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2019-Flood-Outlook-NOAA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185628\" class=\"wp-image-185628\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2019-Flood-Outlook-NOAA-768x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2019-Flood-Outlook-NOAA-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2019-Flood-Outlook-NOAA-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2019-Flood-Outlook-NOAA.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-185628\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click to enlarge<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We have never seen catastrophic flooding like this, and the NOAA is now telling us that there will be more major flooding for at least two more months.\u00a0 On Thursday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warned that \u201chistoric, widespread flooding\u201d would \u201ccontinue through May\u201d.\u00a0 More than 90 percent of the upper Midwest and Great Plains is currently covered by an average of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/catastrophic-flooding-in-the-midwest-could-last-for-months-and-that-is-going-to-mean-a-dramatic-drop-in-u-s-food-production\">10.7 inches of snow<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and all of that snow is starting to melt.\u00a0 That means that we are going to transition from one of the worst winters in modern history to a flood season that has already taken an apocalyptic turn for farmers all across America.\u00a0 At this moment, millions of acres of farmland are already underwater.\u00a0 Thousands of farmers are not going to be able to plant crops this year, and thousands of other farmers that have been financially ruined by the floods will never return to farming again.\u00a0 This is already the worst agricultural disaster in modern American history, and it is going to get a whole lot worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">I posted an article about this crisis <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/catastrophic-flooding-in-the-midwest-could-last-for-months-and-that-is-going-to-mean-a-dramatic-drop-in-u-s-food-production\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>yesterday<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and I am troubled by the fact that most Americans don\u2019t seem to understand the gravity of what we are facing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Millions of bushels of wheat, corn and soybeans have been destroyed by flood waters, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of livestock have been lost, and all of us will soon be feeling a lot more pain at the grocery store.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And this would be a complete and utter national nightmare even if the flooding was all over, but the NOAA just told us that we should expect more catastrophic flooding <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NOAA\/status\/1108751989696020481\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>for the next two months<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Our <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SpringOutlook?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\" data-scribe=\"element:hashtag\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">#SpringOutlook<\/span><\/a> 2019 is out today: <strong>Historic, widespread flooding to continue through May<\/strong>. Find map, highlights video &amp; more at <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nZD8blV1LP\" data-expanded-url=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2JqDsIG\" data-scribe=\"element:url\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/2JqDsIG<\/span>\u00a0<\/a> <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWS\" data-mentioned-user-id=\"454313925\" data-scribe=\"element:mention\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">@NWS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Spring?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\" data-scribe=\"element:hashtag\">#Spring<\/a> <a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Flooding?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\" data-scribe=\"element:hashtag\">#Flooding<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In fact, the NOAA is using the words \u201cunprecedented flood season\u201d to describe what is coming, and they are warning that <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/03\/21\/more-floodwaters-rising-in-storm-ravaged-us-midwest.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u201cmore than 200 million people\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/a> are at risk\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Forecasters warned the floods would likely to continue through May, and could worsen in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>\u201cThis is shaping up to be a potentially unprecedented flood season, with more than 200 million people at risk,\u201d<\/strong> Ed Clark, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\u2019s (NOAA) National Water Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, said on Thursday in the agency\u2019s spring outlook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Of all the natural disasters that we have seen in recent years, this is the biggest, and U.S. food production is going to be dramatically affected because many farmers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/midwest-flooding-inundates-farms-rural-towns-threaten-livelihoods-futures-n986071\">will not be able to grow crops at all<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in 2019\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe reality is this isn\u2019t going to be over for a very long time,\u201d Jorgenson said. \u201cIt took years after 2011 for people to come back. For me as a farmer, there are flooded acres here that <strong>to think that I\u2019ll be able to plant a crop in 45 days is just virtually impossible.<\/strong>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And many farmers will never recover from this disaster at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/03\/21\/us\/floods-nebraska-iowa-agriculture-farm-loss\/index.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>one farmer in Iowa<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, somewhere around half of the farmers in his entire county will not be able to come back from this\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>\u201cI would say 50% of the farmers in our area will not recover from this,\u201d<\/strong> Dustin Sheldon, a farmer in southwestern Iowa\u2019s flood-devastated Fremont County near the swollen Missouri River, said this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">I said it <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/catastrophic-flooding-in-the-midwest-could-last-for-months-and-that-is-going-to-mean-a-dramatic-drop-in-u-s-food-production\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>yesterday<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and I will say it again.\u00a0 This is the worst blow to U.S. agriculture that I have seen in my entire lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The amount of food that has just been lost is absolutely staggering.\u00a0 Due to the trade war, farmers were storing more wheat, corn and soybeans than ever before, and now the floodwaters have destroyed <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-weather-agriculture\/u-s-farmers-face-devastation-following-midwest-floods-idUSKCN1R12J0\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>much of what had been stored<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>As prices plummeted last year amid the ongoing trade fight, growers, faced with selling crops at a loss, stuffed a historic volume of grain into winding plastic tubes and steel bins. Some cash-strapped families piled crops inside their barns or outside on the ground.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Farmers say they are now finding storage bags torn and bins burst open, grain washed away or contaminated. Jeff Jorgenson, a farmer and regional director for the Iowa Soybean Association, said he has seen at least a dozen bins that burst after grains swelled when they became wet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, any wheat, corn or soybeans that are contaminated by flood waters must be destroyed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">I know that I shared the following quote <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/catastrophic-flooding-in-the-midwest-could-last-for-months-and-that-is-going-to-mean-a-dramatic-drop-in-u-s-food-production\">yesterday<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, but in order to give you an idea of the scope of the losses we are looking at, I want to share it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-weather-agriculture\/u-s-farmers-face-devastation-following-midwest-floods-idUSKCN1R12J0\">again<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">As of Dec. 1, producers in states with flooding \u2013 including South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Illinois \u2013 <strong>had 6.75 billion bushels of corn, soybeans and wheat stored on their farms \u2013 38 percent of the total U.S. supplies available at that time<\/strong>, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And remember, the flooding is just getting started.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In just one county in Iowa, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/midwest-flooding-inundates-farms-rural-towns-threaten-livelihoods-futures-n986071\">1.8 million bushels of corn and soybeans<\/a><\/strong><\/span> have already been destroyed.\u00a0 Nationwide, the losses are off the charts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Needless to say, prices will be going way up at the grocery store, and they will keep going up for the rest of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Sadly, even after the flood waters are gone the damage that has been done to our agricultural infrastructure <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-weather-agriculture\/u-s-farmers-face-devastation-following-midwest-floods-idUSKCN1R12J0\">will take years to repair<\/a>\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">As the waters began to recede in parts of Nebraska, the damage to the rural roads, bridges and rail lines was just beginning to emerge. This infrastructure is critical for the U.S. agricultural sector to move products from farms to processing plants and shipping hubs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The damage to roads means it will be harder for trucks to deliver seed to farmers for the coming planting season, but in some areas, the flooding on fields will render them all-but-impossible to use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In Nebraska alone, hundreds of miles of rural roads have been completely washed out, and farmers such as Annette Bloom are having an extremely difficult time <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/hereandnow\/2019\/03\/20\/nebraska-floods-farmers\">just getting to a main road<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>\u201cWe are having to travel three miles through pasture and cropland just to get out because our roads are gone,\u201d<\/strong> she says. \u201cAnd the corn fields are going to be devastating to get in and plant and get that going, because usually we\u2019re planting within the next two weeks and it\u2019s not going to happen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Many of America\u2019s farmers will bravely keep going after this disaster, but for many others a financial breaking point has arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Farm bankruptcies had already surged to the highest level since the last recession prior to all of this flooding, and now this crisis will end up driving many of them away from the profession for good.\u00a0 The following comes from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/midwest-flooding-inundates-farms-rural-towns-threaten-livelihoods-futures-n986071\">NBC News<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Some farmers in Fremont County will probably not return to till their soil, many farmers here said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>\u201cLot of folks won\u2019t be able to continue after this,\u201d said Julius Schaaf, 66, who said 1,500 of his 4,000 acres were currently under water.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In the end, it is going to be a while before we know the full extent of the damage to America\u2019s farms and our food supply, but all of the experts agree that it will be unprecedented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Food prices are already high, but the truth is that this is as low as they are going to get.\u00a0 Much less food will be produced in our heartland this year, and that will mean skyrocketing prices at our grocery stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And this is just one element of <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Jvf6NS\">\u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the perfect storm<\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/a> that is emerging.\u00a0 Our society is starting to be shaken in many different ways, and 2019 is certainly shaping up to be a very \u201cinteresting\u201d year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><em>About the author: <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Lde1XM\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Michael Snyder<\/span><\/a> is a nationally-syndicated writer, media personality and political activist.
