From the start, reporting of the \u201canti-Semitism crisis<\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/a> in the UK\u2019s Labour Party has been characterized by dishonesty<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, exaggeration<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and outright fabrication<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The real target<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of this manufactured crisis is not genuine anti-Semites, but Jeremy Corbyn<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and the wider Palestine solidarity movement<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

But now additional evidence has come to light of a disturbing trend which has been fueling the fire lit since Corbyn\u2019s first leadership victory in September 2015<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

An investigation by The Electronic Intifada has documented 10 fake Twitter profiles posing as Corbyn supporters who have been posting virulent anti-Semitism.<\/span><\/p>\n

The accounts share sufficient similarities<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to indicate that the same person \u2013 or group \u2013 is running them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Without police involvement or a court case, it\u2019s impossible to know for sure who is behind this troll network.<\/span><\/p>\n

But whoever it is, they are clearly attempting to smear Labour as an anti-Semitic party.<\/span><\/p>\n

Culprits?<\/h2>\n

It is well established that Israel has been running both covert and overt efforts against Jeremy Corbyn<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>since he became leader.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anti-Palestinian groups working in coordination with Israel are running covert social media campaigns.<\/span><\/p>\n

A recent example was revealed in the suppressed undercover Al Jazeera investigation, The Lobby \u2013 USA<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As that film showed, The Israel Project<\/a><\/strong><\/span> is running a campaign to infiltrate pro-Israel narratives<\/a><\/strong><\/span> into popular, and otherwise innocuous, Facebook pages.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are also things that we do that are completely off the radar,\u201d the lobby group\u2019s managing director told Al Jazeera\u2019s undercover reporter<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last month, another covert operation was revealed after its documents leaked \u2013 this one run by the British state.<\/span><\/p>\n

The so-called Integrity Initiative was launched in 2015<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and is directed by British military intelligence<\/a><\/strong><\/span> officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its documents suggest it is involved in what it calls \u201cinfowar techniques.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The UK government conceded after the leak<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>that the initiative is being funded by both its foreign<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and defense<\/a><\/strong><\/span> ministries \u2013 over $3 million to date.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the shadowy group\u2019s targets<\/a><\/strong><\/span> has been Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deception<\/h2>\n

The network of Twitter accounts investigated by The Electronic Intifada uses a series of fake names and profile photos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their followers lists also include many dubious looking accounts, strongly suggestive of bought fake followers<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

All 10 accounts have engaged in a pattern of deception, presenting as Labour activists while engaging in anti-Semitism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most have also posted violent<\/a> incitement<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and death threats<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, often against Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

All 10 posted their most violent and anti-Semitic content as replies to other tweets.<\/span><\/p>\n

This means that many times, a cursory look at the accounts\u2019 profile pages is unlikely to reveal anything immediately objectionable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the accounts\u2019 more public-facing tweets are legitimate Labour Party or other political material. Two of the accounts have also posted<\/a> legitimate<\/a><\/strong><\/span> Palestine material.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because they are posted as replies, the anti-Semitic tweets would usually only be seen by those mentioned in them \u2013 or by enemies actively looking at those replies for evidence of \u201cLabour anti-Semitism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The targets of the troll network have often been high-profile Israeli, pro-Israel or Labour accounts. They have included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, right-wing Labour MP Yvette Cooper and Jeremy Corbyn himself<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fake Labour<\/h2>\n

All 10 accounts present themselves as belonging to Labour Party supporters, activists or even staffers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reverse Google Image searches confirm that seven of the 10 profile images are stolen photos \u2013 the other three are likely screen grabs from videos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Six of the 10 profiles present as ostensibly Muslim \u2013 it is these profiles that have posted some of the most disturbing anti-Semitism, including direct calls for violence against Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

These accounts have Arabic names including \u201cAbu Hussein\u201d and \u201cAbu Omar\u201d while using stolen<\/a><\/strong><\/span> photos<\/a>, some of actual or alleged Islamists or Islamic extremists.<\/span><\/p>\n

One such photo is of Muhammad Qutb<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the late brother of influential Muslim Brotherhood ideologue Sayyid Qutb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Surviving Twitter evidence shows the troll network dates back to at least November 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n
