Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says\u00a0he had \u201cinsisted\u201d that the US\u00a0reimpose\u00a0sanctions<\/a><\/span> on Iran, adding\u00a0Tel Aviv complements economic pressures\u00a0with its own\u00a0actions\u00a0“at the military level.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump \u201cis acting against Iran at the economic level and we here in Israel are acting against Iran at the military level,\u201d Netanyahu said in an address to Israeli military cadets on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

By military actions, Netanyahu apparently meant airstrikes against what Israel\u00a0calls Iranian positions in Syria.\u00a0Damascus says the attacks are part of Israel’s efforts to prop up terrorists in the face of army advances.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, an Israeli intelligence website refuted Tel Aviv’s\u00a0claims that a recent aerial raid in\u00a0Syria had targeted Iranian military advisers and Hezbollah fighters, saying the attack actually hit Syrian army positions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Netanyahu\u00a0said Israel was \u201csurrounded by enemies on a couple of fronts,\u201d and it was \u201cacting determinedly against anyone seeking to endanger us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

His comments came a day after Trump said Iran \u201ccan do what they want\u201d in Syria following his decision to withdraw US troops<\/a><\/strong><\/span> operating there, a move that sparked consternation in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIran is no longer the same country,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIran is pulling people out of Syria. They can do what they want there, frankly, but they\u2019re pulling people out. They\u2019re pulling people out of Yemen. Iran wants to survive now,\u201d he\u00a0claimed Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an apparent bid to soothe Israel,\u00a0US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday Washington would\u00a0continue to work closely with Israel over Syria and Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking in a meeting with Netanyahu in Brazil, the top US diplomat said Trump\u2019s announcement of pulling out troops from Syria \u201cin no way changes anything that this administration is working on alongside Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He said US commitment to counter what he called Iranian aggression and\u00a0“the protection of Israel continues in the same way it did before” Trump made the decision.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran has been offering advisory military assistance to the Syrian government in its counter-terrorism battle at the request of Damascus.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US, Israel, France, Britain and their regional allies such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey and Qatar, instead, have been sponsoring terrorists in Syria since 2011 which has left the Arab country in ruins.<\/span><\/p>\n

America\u2019s most foreign allies in the war against Syria, particularly Israel and Saudi Arabia, are opposing Trump\u2019s plans to withdraw troops from Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n
