Eleven people, including one policeman, have been injured as a result of unrest in a so-called anchor centre for migrants in the southern Germany. Several Eritrean nationals are said to have attacked security staffers and policemen with stones and metal bars, as well as set the building on fire. A police raid later revealed drugs and stolen goods.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several people were detained following\u00a0a violent outburst in\u00a0the Upper Franconian Anchor Centre for migrants <\/a><\/strong><\/span>in\u00a0the northern Bavarian town of\u00a0Bamberg. Police were called to\u00a0the site after\u00a0a disturbance was reported on\u00a0Tuesday night. The patrol that first arrived on\u00a0the scene was attacked with\u00a0paving stones and other objects. Therefore, reinforcements were deployed, who surrounded the building.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several Eritreans, along\u00a0with other residents of\u00a0the centre, reportedly attacked the police and security staff and barricaded themselves inside\u00a0the premises. They also allegedly set one of\u00a0the apartments on\u00a0fire. It forced residents out\u00a0of the building, and this allowed the police to\u00a0detain 8 migrants. Four main suspects are to\u00a0appear in\u00a0front of\u00a0a court on\u00a0December 12, police and prosecutors said. The investigators strongly suspect the migrants, who attacked the police, intended to\u00a0kill them, the German outlet Die Welt reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the newspaper, eleven people were injured. One of\u00a0them was a policeman who was attacked with\u00a0a metal bar and needed medical treatment. The other ten were residents of\u00a0the centre, including 9 suspected rioters, who were treated for\u00a0smoke inhalation. The fire also caused property damage worth around\u00a0100,000 euros.<\/span><\/p>\n
