{"id":178601,"date":"2018-11-04T08:04:53","date_gmt":"2018-11-04T08:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=178601"},"modified":"2018-11-06T07:05:55","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T07:05:55","slug":"adam-clayton-powell-jr-undeservedly-forgotten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=178601","title":{"rendered":"Adam Clayton Powell Jr. &#8212; Non-Communists are Forgotten"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"center\">\n<h1>henrymakow.com &#8212; Nov 4, 2018<\/h1>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2XJAUVwm92Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5><strong>As Chair of the House Education and Labor Committee,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ffff00;\"><a style=\"color: #ffff00;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adam_Clayton_Powell,_Jr.\">Adam Clayton Powell<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Jr., (1908-1972) US Rep from Harlem (1945-1971) single-handedly legislated the civil rights US Blacks enjoy today.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>For example, he made lynching a federal crime, raised the minimum wage, desegregated public schools, challenged the Southern practice of charging Blacks a poll tax to vote and stopped racist Congressmen from saying the word &#8220;nigger&#8221; in sessions of Congress. Although of mixed race, 6ft 4 and strikingly handsome, <em>he could pass as white yet chose to identify as Black.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>Powell was the real saviour of US Blacks. Yet we hardly hear about him today. Why? Powell should enjoy the acclaim we heap on Martin Luther King. (King had a dark side too.) He made more enemies on Capitol Hill than perhaps any legislator before or since.<\/h5>\n<h5>He didn&#8217;t behave like a typical African-American minister. &#8220;I believe only in the teaching of Jesus,&#8221; he said, &#8220;I am not a full-Bible Christian.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h5>And he felt this distinction gave him wide moral latitude. He openly drank alcohol, smoked, and had adulterous affairs.
