If Iran does indeed develop its own indigenous version of the Russian Pantsir S2, as the following report suggests, its defence industry will have passed a new milestone.<\/h5>\n

Iranian scientists and engineers are already close to finishing development of the Bavar 373, Iran’s answer to Russia’s S-300, and if they can produce an indigenous version of the Pantsir S2 they will have reached a new level of technical accomplishment.<\/h5>\n
The locally developed Bavar 373 air defence system is purportedly more “precise<\/a><\/span>” than the Russian S-300. Although the S-300 has gone out of production and been replaced by the S-400 in Russia’s air defences, the S-300 is still a formidable weapon and if Iran has indeed improved on it potential adversaries will need to take note.<\/h5>\n
Iran already has the original Russian Pantsir S1<\/a><\/span> but if it can improve it, as Russia did with the Pantsir S2<\/a><\/span> it will compliment the Bavar 373 and turn Iran’s air defences into a formidable obstacle. Ed<\/h5>\n

A deputy commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base said Iranian air defense units are working together to design and develop a domestic version of the Russian “Pantsir” (Shell) missile system, which is a family of self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air missile systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iranian experts have been doing research in the past two years to develop the Pantsir missile system, General Mahmoud Ebrahimi-Nejad told Tasnim on September 10.<\/span><\/p>\n

People will hear good news about it in the near future, he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pantsir-S1 is the first version and is a combined short to medium range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system produced by KBP of Tula, Russia. The system is a further development of 2K22 Tunguska (NATO reporting name: SA-19\/SA-N-11) and represents the latest air defense technology by using phased array radars for both target acquisition and tracking.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pantsir-S1 was designed to provide point air defense of military\/industrial\/administrative installations against aircraft, helicopters, precision munitions, cruise missiles, UAVs and to provide additional protection to air defense units from enemy air attacks employing precision munitions especially at the low to extremely low ranges.<\/span><\/p>\n

General Mahmoud Ebrahimi-Nejad also said Iran’s military has managed to successfully test the domestically-built Bavar-373 air defense system, hitting ballistic missiles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bavar-373 system has been completed and its missile tests have been conducted,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bavar-373 is an Iranian designed long-range mobile air defense system unveiled in August, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n
