The US Air Force is on the verge of completing construction of yet another military logistics facility in the Middle East, dubbed appropriately \u201cCargo City.\u201d The airfield will support the US\u2019 military operations in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, the goals and end dates of which remain elusive.<\/p>\n

Adjacent to\u00a0Kuwait International Airport, US crews have dug through\u00a0Kuwaiti soil to\u00a0install new communications cables and antenna systems that will enable both the US and Kuwaiti air forces to\u00a0operate out\u00a0of Cargo City, which will be the main aerial debarkation point in\u00a0the Middle East, the US Air Force’s 386th Expeditionary Wing announced in\u00a0a July 5 news release.<\/p>\n

The construction of\u00a0the $32 million logistics hub has taken place during\u00a0a time of “massive expansion” at\u00a0Kuwait International Airport, the release notes.<\/p>\n

Still, the service plans for\u00a0the airfield to\u00a0be its major Middle East logistics hub for\u00a0transporting supplies, personnel and equipment to\u00a0and from\u00a0regional military theaters only until\u00a02023, at\u00a0which point the service says it will shift to\u00a0the West Al-Mubarak Air Base, also part of\u00a0the Kuwait International Airport complex, as\u00a0its primary operating location.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to\u00a0go into\u00a0this project with\u00a0the clear intentions of\u00a0building not just an operating location, but\u00a0a lasting partnership,” Captain Sean Murphy of\u00a0the 387th Expeditionary Support Squadron said. Murphy is in\u00a0charge of\u00a0the civil engineering projects taking place near\u00a0the Kuwaiti airport, according to\u00a0the release.<\/p>\n

When Murphy and his team arrived, “the entire site was pretty much a 10-foot deep hole and needed to\u00a0be filled in\u00a0and graded properly,” the captain said, “which is a huge project in\u00a0itself.”<\/p>\n

Twenty-four hours a day for\u00a0four months straight, a local trucking firm shuttled in\u00a0400 truckloads of\u00a0soil, dirt and rock. After the site was prepared, the crew had to\u00a0make the site move-in ready within\u00a0three months, according to\u00a0the US Air Force. Further construction of\u00a0the aircraft parking ramp and a place for\u00a0aircraft to\u00a0taxi is slated to\u00a0wrap up\u00a0later this fall.<\/p>\n

The statement, carried by IRGC-affiliated Fars News, said the strike was carried out during the fourth wave of the IRGC\u2019s \u201cNasr 2\u201d operation. It added that retaliatory operations against US forces would continue and that \u201cthe Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until what it described as US hostilities end.\u201d<\/p>\n
