This speaks volumes about the sort of ‘advisors’ who are now guiding Ukraine’s people and quite possibly its government too.<\/h5>\n
As anyone who has studied it knows, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is far more than an “anti-Semitic forgery”. It first came to prominence nearly a century ago and regardless of whether it is anti-Semitic or not it has prefigured many of the political developments of the past century.<\/h5>\n
The Protocols prescience alone marks it out as being more than an ‘anti-Semitic forgery’. In brief it outlined plans to establish a world government using “terror”, the press or what today we would call the media, and controlled leaders as a means toward that end.<\/h5>\n
Sound familiar?<\/h5>\n
Significantly the writer, Paul A. Groble, doesn’t quote from the Protocols once and nor does he explain the actual content. After all that would give the game away. So instead, he simply and repeatedly dismisses the Protocols as an “anti-Semitic forgery”.<\/h5>\n
However, a brief look at Paul A. Groble’s background reveals why we shouldn’t take everything he writes at face value. He has worked in various capacities for the U.S. State Department, the Carnegie Endowment and, according to some observers<\/a><\/span>, the CIA too.<\/h5>\n
He also worked for the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy where he helped train the country’s diplomats. So it’s no exaggeration to say the likes of Groble helped facilitate the increasingly close ties between Israel and Azerbaijan<\/a><\/span>.<\/h5>\n

\"protocols2\"<\/a>Last Friday night in prime time, Moscow\u2019s REN-TV<\/em> presented what it says was a documentary about the sinking of the Titanic in 2012 that suggested that the sinking of the ship was the result of a Masonic conspiracy with, in the words of one viewer, \u201ca clearly expressed anti-Semitic subtext.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Aleksey Zheleznev suggests<\/a> that<\/strong><\/span> this represented \u201ca reanimation in Russia<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of \u2018The Protocols of the Elders of Zion<\/em>,\u201d a vicious anti-Semitic forgery that animated the Russian far right at the end of the imperial period and retains support among Russian marginal to this day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Moscow television show, he points out, was a remake of a film prepared for the centenary of the loss of the Titanic<\/em> in 2012. That film suggested that a shadowy \u201cGroup of 300<\/em>\u201d consisting of Jews, Masons and Illuminati had sunk the ship in order to provoke chaos and bring to power \u201ca universal government\u2019\u201d controlled by themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

The notion that such a conspiracy existed, of course, was a central theme of \u201cThe Protocols of the Elders of Zion<\/em>\u201d and completely absurd. But when REN-TV<\/em> showed it in 2012, it spoke about all this in the past tense, as something that had happened in the years before World War I and therefore quite distant from today\u2019s world.<\/span><\/p>\n

What makes the new showing disturbing, Zheleznev says, is that the revised version of the film shown at the end of last week drops any reference to this time frame and thus presents this \u201ccontent\u201d outside of time and thus important for the present day, especially since it links the sinking of the Titanic<\/em> to more recent events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among these, the Russian writer says, are \u201cthe diversion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986, the destruction of the USSR in 1991, and the blowing up of the twin towers in New York in 2001, \u201cin which,\u201d according to the film\u2019s writers, \u201cArab terrorists were unjustly accused.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of these horrific crimes,\u201d the film suggests in Zheleznev\u2019s words, \u201cis to frighten people and to transform them into an obedient herd condemned to subordination or destruction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to \u201cThe Protocols of the Elders of Zion<\/em>,\u201d this conspiracy was hatched in 1897 at the First Zionist Congress. The pamphlet itself appeared in 1903 and was given wide distribution in Russia even though it was denounced as crude anti-Semitic forgery by many Russians.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is worrisome, Zheleznev says, is that once again, the ideas in this forgery are being disseminated by the Russian media \u2013 and this time by the far more powerful and influential Russian television which surveys show many Russians now accept not only as reflecting the views of the Kremlin but as necessarily true.<\/span><\/p>\n

This television program comes on the heels of another event in Russia that is of concern. A State\u00a0Duma deputy from the majority party United Russia<\/em>, Mikhail Starshinov, has called for reestablishing state control over \u201cthe quality of religious education and preaching,\u201d arguing that the USSR offers \u201ca positive case\u201d in this regard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aleksandr Boroda, the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, says<\/a> that he is extremely worried about what this would mean for religious life in Russia and because it appears that this proposal has a Kremlin imprimatur.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a Federation press release<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the rabbi says that what Starshinov\u00a0seeks is the \u201cde facto restoration of the Soviet \u2018Council on Religious Affairs<\/em>\u2019\u201d which exercised \u201ctotal control over religious life\u201d and which was often involved in anti-Semitic outrages.<\/span><\/p>\n
