Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has sent similar messages via Twitter in recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Iran&#8217;s Jewish community dates back nearly 3,000 years. Many Iranian Jews fled the country after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, but an estimated 20,000 native-born Jews remain in Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Tensions with Iranian Jews grew under hardline former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who repeatedly called the Holocaust &#8220;a myth&#8221; and even <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ex-klan-chief-at-holocaust-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">sponsored an international conference in 2006<\/a><\/span><\/strong> to debate whether the Holocaust ever really took place. Then-Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi once accused Jews as a whole of being drug dealers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Since Rouhani took office, his government agreed to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ccffff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/iran-more-tolerant-of-jews-under-new-president-hassan-rouhani\/\" target=\"_blank\">allow Jewish schools to be closed on Saturdays<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to mark Shabbat, the day of rest.
