Lil Wayne\u2019s first single off his new album \u201cRebirth\u201d seems to be describing a \u201chot girl\u201d who is therefore \u201cOn Fire\u201d. The video however clearly indicates to the viewers that this girl is \u201cOn Fire\u201d for a reason: she comes from Hell. We will look at the symbolism used in Lil Wayne\u2019s \u201cOn Fire\u201d and we\u2019ll see how this infacuation is in fact with the devil himself.<\/em><\/p>\n

Lil Wayne\u2019s newest album will be called Rebirth<\/em>. This term has, more often than not, a spiritual connotation. Since one cannot physically be \u201creborn\u201d during a lifetime, the term Rebirth<\/em> almost always indicates a spiritual metamorphosis. Countless religious and spiritual groups in history describe the initiate\u2019s awakening as a Rebirth, where the old self dies and the new, improved self is born. Whether we look at Born-Again Christians, Buddhists, Freemasons or even members of the Church of Satan, the symbolic rebirth is commemorated by some sort of ritual. Didn\u2019t Jesus himself say: \u201cI tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again\u201c<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Director Chris Robinson has fully embraced this concept by inserting religious imagery throughout the video to \u201cOn Fire\u201d<\/em>. The symbolism of the video couldn\u2019t however be clearer and I won\u2019t play with words: Lil Wayne\u2019s Rebirth<\/em> is a Satanic one. As simple as that. The \u201chot girl\u201d Lil Wayne is describing is, in fact, the Devil himself. The juxtaposition of religious symbols with Lil Wayne\u2019s encounter with this sexy temptress gives to the video a second layer of meaning: a spiritual one.<\/p>\n

The video is based on the reversal of the classical paradigm of good vs. evil, making evil seem sexy, desirable and cool. This theme has been used before, as in Rihanna\u2019s Umbrella<\/em> and Disturbia<\/em> (articles here<\/a> and here<\/a>) where the artist is seduced into the \u201cdark side\u201d. Lil Wayne\u2019s Rebirth<\/em> seems to confirm Lil Wayne\u2019s initiation into the industry\u2019s dark side and \u201cOn Fire\u201d<\/em>is the initiation ritual. Here\u2019s the video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Analysis of Video<\/strong><\/div>\n

Right from the start of the video, the reversal of the good and evil paradigm is symbolically represented<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The white rabbit in the hands of the Temptress becomes black. In other words, the white rabbit, the symbolic color of purity and innocence becomes black, the color traditionally associated with death and evil.<\/p>\n

Lil Wayne, his new rock star persona, gets up from a couch and starts singing the praises of the Devil and describes its irresistible sexiness in his digitally auto-tuned voice (can\u2019t get enough of that effect \u2026 cough \u2026). Here are some highlights of this poetic masterpiece:<\/p>\n

Mama bad,

\nGasoline
\nShe\u2019s on fire,
\nPut her out,
\nAs a matter of fact,
\nTake her out,
\nCos she\u2019s on fire,<\/em><\/p>\n

Got on my knees and asked my Lord to keep me clear from the devil cause my girl<\/strong>
\nShe\u2019s she\u2019s on fire,
\nYeah now everything so cool<\/p>\n

Uh, she hot as hell lets call her Helen,
\nFireman to her rescue like 9-11,
\nF-cking right I make her hot,
\nShe got the Devil in her,
\nI do whatever with her,
\nHells angel, I pluck her feathers n-gga<\/strong><\/p>\n

So I am not talking about \u201cthe devil\u201d, \u201cSatan\u201d and \u201cevil\u201d because I am a religious fanatic of some sort, this is truly the theme of the song. Lil Wayne compares this girl to the Devil and explains that she is \u201cOn Fire\u201d because she is straight from Hell. I don\u2019t think it can be any clearer. Well actually, the video makes it extremely clear.<\/p>\n

The use of religious and biblical imagery throughout the video clearly conveys that this song is not about a woman, but a spiritual entity.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Communion<\/strong><\/div>\n

In the most symbolic scene of the video, Lil Wayne is approached by a Temptress, a sexy representation of the Devil, who offers him what looks like a glass of wine. The ritual is inspired by the Christian ritual of the Eucharist, where bread and wine (representing the Christ\u2019s body and blood) are shared by Church members. Lil Wayne is however drinking the blood of the Devil in his initiatic rite.<\/p>\n

The Temptress who gave Lil Wayne his wine glass is then shown with a skeleton face overlapping her own<\/a>, further reinforcing this notion of \u201csexy but deadly evil\u201d.<\/p>\n

Lil Wayne then \u201cconsummates\u201d his relationship with the Devil. Submission to evil is depicted as something hot, sexy and desirable. This scene is intertwined with scenes of a snake, which, once again, hint to the real nature of the communion going on.<\/p>\n

Snakes are considered by most to be sneaky, venomous creatures. In the biblical context of this video, one can associate the snake to the serpent of the Book of Genesis.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, \u201cDid God really say, \u2018You must not eat from any tree in the garden\u2019?\u201d<\/em>

The snake is considered by most Christians to be Satan in disguise who tricked Adam and Eve into disobeying God. The same way the Serpent of the Genesis convinced Eve to bite the apple, the Temptress convinced Lil Wayne to unite with her.<\/p>\n

Winged Lion<\/strong><\/div>\n

Among other religious-related shots, a stained-glass depicting a winged lion quickly appears <\/a>.<\/p>\n

The winged lion is an ancient symbol representing St. Mark the Evangelist, further reinforcing the biblical, \u201cspiritual struggle\u201d aspect of the video.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Birdman Tatoo<\/strong><\/div>\n

Birdman, Lil Wayne\u2019s mentor and adoptive father makes a quick appearance in the video and shows off his new tattoo.<\/p>\n

It is an inverted pentagram, an important symbol in the occult realm.<\/p>\n

.\u201cThe pentagram with one point upwards repels evil, but a reversed pentagram, with two points upwards, is a symbol of the Devil and attracts sinister forces because it is upside down and because it stands for the number 2. It represents the great Goat of the witches\u2019 sabbath and the two upward points are the Goat\u2019s horn.\u201d<\/em>

The pentagram is used extensively in black magic, but when so used its form always differs in one of three ways: The star may be broken at one point by not permitting the converging lines to touch; it may be inverted by having one point down and two up; or it may be distorted by having the points of varying lengths. When used in black magic, the pentagram is called the \u201csign of the cloven hoof,\u201d or the footprint of the Devil. For this reason, the inverted pentagram has been used in the emblem of Anton Lavey\u2019s Church of Satan <\/a>.<\/p>\n

Interesting sidenote:<\/strong> Some readers have a hard time believing that video directors and artists deliberately use these types of symbols in the videos and claim that my observations are merely the result of coincidences. A friendly reader of this site has sent me a Behind the Scenes video of Lady Gaga\u2019s Paparazzi<\/em> video (you can view it here<\/a>) which gives a slight idea of the mindstate of the people in the industry. Check out the shirt video director Jonas Akerlund was wearing<\/a> during the shooting of Paparazzi:<\/em><\/p>\n

There are no \u201cconspiracy theories\u201d or wild allegations here. People in the business know exactly what they are doing. The darker aspects of Western Occultism are heavily studied and exploited in the music business. I mean, the director is walking around with a Baphomet head on his shirt while directing the video to Paparazzi<\/em>! Can Satanic messages be a result of coincidences?<\/p>\n

The distorted Sign of the Cross<\/strong><\/div>\n

For the second time in a recent video (the first time being Lady Gaga\u2019s Bad Romance<\/em>) the star of a video performs a distorted Sign of the Cross, which describes a triangle instead of a cross.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve read my article on Bad Romance<\/em> (available here<\/a>), you\u2019re aware of the many occult themes exploited throughout the video. \u201cOn Fire\u201d<\/em> describes a similar story of initiation and, at critical point of the performance, this distorted ritual is performed. Does this altered religious sign hide an occult meaning?<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Conclusion<\/strong><\/div>\n

Lil Wayne\u2019s \u201cOn Fire\u201d<\/em> is yet another tale of occult initiation, complete with a communion ritual. Although Lil Wayne has appeared in some occult-themed videos, \u201cOn Fire\u201d<\/em> is an \u201cinitiatic\u201d video describing the true nature of his Rebirth. The video uses the same basic template found in other \u201cIlluminati\u201d videos analyzed on this site, where the artist is approached, tempted and initiated by an evil entity. Director Chris Robinson used a very biblical approach, using symbols known by the masses and making it easily decipherable by the common man. In other words, the real meaning of the song is meant to be understood.<\/p>\n

From what I\u2019ve heard, this single may or may not appear on the final version of the album and the video has been taken off YouTube. Is it because it got such bad reviews? Whatever the reason, the video still describes in a blatant manner the true nature of the force guiding Lil Wayne\u2019s career.<\/p>\n
