The US Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex marriage is now legal across the United States.\u00a0In a historic 5-4 decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy ruled that marriage is a constitutional right for all.\u00a0President Barack Obama said the decision was a \u201cbig step\u201d toward equality.\u00a0<\/strong>Writing on Twitter, Obama said: \u201cGay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. Love wins!\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n
It is unclear how quickly marriage licences will be issued in states where gay unions were previously banned.\u00a0Before the ruling, same sex couples could marry in 37 states in addition to Washington DC.\u00a0Gay rights supporters took to the streets to celebrate the decision outside the court after the ruling was announced.\u00a0Hundreds of people had camped out the night before awaiting the landmark decision.<\/h5>\n
Gay supporter Jon Dawson, 45, said: \u201cWe have waited for this day for decades<\/span>.<\/a>\u00a0For too long America has let its prejudices rule.\u00a0It doesn\u2019t matter what sex you are if two people love each other. This is a great day in American history and long overdue.\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n
However, many Christian conservatives attacked the ruling.<\/h5>\n
\u201cWe must resist and reject this out-of-control act of unconstitutional judicial tyranny,\u201d said Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor.<\/strong><\/h5>\n
President Obama was joined by other Democrats in celebrating the historic decision to let gays marry in all 50 states. Presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, rumored to be a closet lesbian, was particularly delighted. \u201cProud to celebrate a historic victory for marriage equality,\u201d she tweeted.<\/h5>\n

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Tel Aviv broke new ground and raised quite a few eyebrows by flying the rainbow-colored gay pride flag below the Stars and Stripes in a show of support for the city\u2019s Gay Pride week (see here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>) and in solidarity with the jubilant gay community throughout the world, celebrating its recent triumph in America.<\/h5>\n
President Obama, who is said\u00a0to have frequented gay bath houses<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at one time and been a cocaine-snorting gay hustler<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, was reportedly cockahoop with delight at the way things had turned out.<\/h5>\n
