I love this new intersectional utopia of love and tolerance for all people. Unless you’re the wrong skin color. Or the wrong shade of the right skin color. Or the wrong tint of the wrong shade of… oh hell.
Complaining about casting white actors as mythological deities in Gods of Egypt is so over. Now the insane politically correct intersectional left is angry, furiously angry, that a black actress playing a black character is the wrong shade of black.
Zoe Saldana, who is part Haitian, Dominican and some other stuff, and identifies as a black woman, is being attacked for not being black enough to play Nina Simone.
Simone’s dark complexion and traditionally African features were central to her identity and concept of black beauty, so casting someone with Saldana’s more ethnically ambiguous appearance is galling, said Miriam J. Petty, assistant professor in the African-American Studies department at Northwestern University.
“It’s disrespectful and demonstrates the depth of the ignorance of the person making the film of the very subject of the film,” she said.
“Whatever can be done to discredit this film as not the definitive one, by virtue of the philosophical problem, the very blatant philosophical problem of this casting.”
The “philosophical problem” being that Zoe Saldana is not of pure race?
This is what the ethnic studies left is now. It’s boycotting films because of the lack of racial purity of cast members. Next thing you know, there will have to be some sort of camps for people like Zoe Saldana and, I guess, Barack Obama, who probably also isn’t sufficiently black enough for Miriam J. Petty.
Forget white privilege. Next up is the privilege of black people who look sorta white. Then black people who don’t look black enough. Then we can properly assemble a racial intersectional hierarchy.
Over at New York’s Vulture, E. Alex Jung, an Asian man, helped compile a list of actresses properly “black” enough to play Nina Simone… because this is what the left does now while it goes so anti-racist that it’s ridiculously racist.
Critics outraged that Zoe Saldana will play the late Nina Simone in an upcoming biopic have launched a boycott page on change.org.
“Getting light-complexioned actors to play the roles of dark-complexioned historical figures is not only a sign of blatant disrespect to the persons they are portraying, but it is also disrespectful to their families, to history, to the people who look like the persons being whitewashed, and to the intelligence of the audience,” it reads.
So now the task ahead is to assemble a Colorism which perfectly categorizes all black people by their exact shade and dispenses affirmative action based on the paper bag test. And then maybe we can start handing out DNA tests to check the real amount of blackness.
Then we can all move to Mars and nuke the planet from orbit.
