Brzezinski: Israel incapable to strike Iran

Former US national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski says a military strike against Iran is not a 'real option' for Israel or the US.
"[The military option] is not a real option for the US and it is not a real option for Israel because Israel doesn't have a capability to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities," Brzezinski said in a weekend interview with Ha'aretz.
He added that such an attack would wield together 'Iranian nationalism and Iranian fundamentalism.'
The former aide to US President Jimmy Carter also advised Israeli officials against pressuring the US for a military strike against Iran, because it may affect the relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.
"One [piece of] advice that I would give the Israeli government is not to engage in this campaign for an American attack on Iran, because I don't think America is going to attack Iran, and if it did, and the consequences would be disastrous," said Brzezinski.
"It wouldn't be particularly good for American-Israeli relations, and there will be a lot of resentment against [Israel]…There already has been some after the war in Iraq," he added.
The influential US political analyst also said that Israel could not carry out an effective strike against Iran without Washington's permission, because of its geographical position.
It is some time now that hawkish politicians in Washington and Tel Aviv have been talking of launching a military campaign against Iran over its refusal to give up its 'legal right' to enrich uranium as part of a 'civilian' nuclear program.
Israel and its Western allies express concern about an Iranian nuclear weapons program, despite consistent reports by the UN nuclear watchdog that confirm the non-diversion of nuclear material in the country.
