Al Qaeda Presence in Kashmir complete hoax: Police
Kashmir Newz – July 18, 2006
Police in Indian administered Kashmir have refuted claims of an Al Qaeda presence in Kashmir.
"The Al Qaeda in Kashmir is a complete hoax. " Inspector General Police, Kashmir Range, S M Sahi told Kashmir Newz Tuesday.
"Basically the militant organisations don't want to take responsibilities for what they have been doing, whether it is the Bombay blasts or Srinagar blasts." Sahai said.
Last week Current News Service (CNS), a local news agency in Srinagar, reported about the Al Qaeda claim made by an unidentified caller in Srinagar.
A caller identifying himself as Abu al-Hadeed, claiming to be spokesperson of Al Qaeda Jammu and Kashmir made a call to CNS and announced the formation of the group in Kashmir, CNS reported.
"Abu Abdur Rehman Ansari is our chief commander here," the caller said according to CNS. "Soon we will make public our organizational structure and motives."
Police in Kashmir reacted swiftly to and said it was taking the claim seriously and verifying the authenticity of claim.
Kashmiri Militant group, Hizbul Mujahideen was also quick to react and called it a fabrication of Indian agencies.
