Small aircraft crashes into Manhattan building

News Brief – October 11, 2006
CNN reports that a small aircraft crashed into a building on Manhattan's Upper East Side on Wednesday, but a U.S. official said there was no reason to believe it was terrorism-related.
The small general aviation plane crashed on East 72nd St. and York Avenue, near the East River, CNN reported, citing the Federal Aviation Administration.
TV pictures showed flames and smoke coming out of the high-rise apartment building on Manhattan island
The pictures of the burning building evoked images of the hijack plane attacks of September 11, 2001.
The plane was reportedly owned by New York Yankees baseball pitcher Cory Lidle. US media reports say he was piloting the plane at the time and died in the crash.
