Killing Democracy? Update:

In an episode that emulated the very worst of ancient Rome Washington took another step on a steady march to dictatorship. Murder and assassination are now routinely used as tools of political expedience: aided and abetted by a media which refuses to examine, let alone even report, what it derisively refers to as “conspiracy theories.”

On Friday, October 25, Senator Wellstone was killed – along with his wife, his daughter and three members of his campaign staff – in a plane crash that has left in its a wake a trail of doubt and suspicion. He was, in the eyes of many commentators, one of President Bush’s most formidable opponents. In a string of Senate votes the Democratic Senator had:

* Voted AGAINST use of Military Force Against Iraq without considerations

* Voted AGAINST Homeland Security

* Voted AGAINST giving too much power to the President in the case of Iraq.

* Voted FOR an INDEPENDENT investigation of 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US.

The Senator had indeed attracted some formidable opponents, largely because he had become such an obstacle for Bush and his cronies. In the weeks prior to elections Americans for Job Security, a previously unknown interest group opposed to Sen. Paul Wellstone, made an unprecedented $1 million offer to buy adverts that would fill the airwaves in the run up to elections.

However as early as May this year the warning signals were clear. Political commentator Paul Nichols had then described Wellstone as a “hunted man.” In the words of one senior Republican aide he had spoken to: “There are people in the White House who wake up in the morning thinking about how they will defeat Paul Wellstone”.

Little wonder therefore that when Wellstone’s death was announced it was greeted with accusations of “assassination”, as the following reveals:



The Democrat senator from Minnestota, Paul Wellstone, appears to have been murdered in the same way that John F. Kennedy, Jr. was killed. The technology to remotely sabotage planes has been perfected and is an easy way to kill political opponents.

Wellstone was leading in the polls by about 6 percentage points over his opponent, Norm Coleman, who was "hand-picked by the White House to try and unseat the unapologetically liberal Mr Wellstone." (Financial Times 10/25)

Coleman, a jew from Brooklyn, was favored by the pro-Israel lobby and activists. Coleman in September had called for "first strikes against Iraq." Wellstone, on the other hand, had opposed the Gulf War in 1990-91.

Coleman was the state chairman for G.W. Bush in Minnesota.

The senate race in Minnesota was one of the most expensive races in the country with more than $15 million already spent. AIPAC funds from Zionist groups had flowed to Coleman. The race in Minnesota was seen as critical to the Bush Republicans and the pro-war factions in Israel and Washington.

However, Coleman was trailing badly close to the election and when you are losing such an important race so close to the finish there is only one option left - SHOOT THE OTHER HORSE!
