Spring Brings Nearly 2 feet of Snow to Parts of N. America

A late-season snowstorm has dumped nearly 2 feet of heavy, wet snow on northern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire, cutting off power to thousands and closing some schools.

A National Weather Service spokesman said record snowfalls were reported Tuesday and Wednesday at the Burlington International Airport. The snow is expected to end late Wednesday.

Power outages have affected nearly 30,000 homes in Vermont and New York. Scattered outages have also been reported in New Hampshire.

Meanwhile snow is reported to have caused the closure of schools in Calgary, Canada.

Environment Canada warned of "dangerous winter weather conditions" for Calgary and surrounding areas.

More than a dozen flights have been cancelled at the Calgary International Airport while the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said some roads were not recommended for travel because of heavy snow and poor driving conditions.

An intense weather system is also bringing winds gusting up to 70 km/h.
