Obama’s formative administration is beginning to take shape and it is beginning to look worse with each new appointment.
A week after the former presidential contenders met secretly to discuss the prospect of Hilary Clinton becoming America’s top diplomat, the two sides were moving quickly toward making it a reality.
Mr Obama is reported to be ready to nominate her after next Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday.
A transition aide has said both sides were working on financial issues involving Mrs Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, and the complicated international funding of his foundation that operates in 27 countries. Mr Obama and Ms Clinton have had extensive conversations about the secretary of state job, said the aide.
Ms Clinton is said to have been considering the post for several days, but the transition aide’s comments suggest that Mr Obama’s team feel she is unlikely to turn down the offer.
In the event of Hilary Clinton assuming the post of Secretary of State, Obama’s administration will begin to look like a copy of the Clinton White House. With the transition team already naming former Clinton aide Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff.
Its claimed that Ms Clinton would bring instant stature and credibility to US diplomatic relations. But if confirmed, many would view the Obama administration as becoming a clone of Bill Clinton’s tenure – only much, much worse.
