How the Mighty Are Falling

News Commentary – Oct 26, 2012

Suddenly the high and mighty, in terms of wealth and power and sheer media prominence, are being toppled from the pedestals. No one seems immune from this, both the living and the dead.
In recent weeks British DJ and TV personality, Jimmy Savile has been exposed as a serial sex-abuser. Police are investigating more than three hundred cases involving him, some of which may be linked to the Haut de la Garenne care home in Jersey where the human remains were found.
More prominent British media personalities are thought to have been involved with Savile in the sexual abuse of youngsters spanning decades. Investigations are still underway but more famous figures are likely to be exposed in the coming weeks.
According to our informants collusion in Savile’s activities reaches right to the very top of Britain’s establishment.
Meanwhile media mogul and former Italian Prime Minister Silvia Berlusconi has just been convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to four years in jail.
The 76-year-old has the right to appeal the ruling two more times before sentencing is finalised and he will undoubtedly do so. However, the court ruling also banned Berlusconi from holding public office.
Berlusconi is no stranger to prosecution though.
Mr. Berlusconi is still on trial on charges of paying underage woman for sex and using his position as prime minister to conceal the episode. Once exposed however, he denied the charges and claimed to be the target of persecution by left-wing magistrates.
We expect to see more shocking disclosures in the coming weeks. If nothing else it will be entertaining as we watch the high and the mighty come crashing down.
