Iranian missile trouble for Israeli interceptors

Israel has no adequate interceptor for Iran’s new long-range missile Sejjil-2 which was successfully test-fired on Wednesday, Israeli sources say.

The Israeli military intelligence website, DEBKAfile said in a report on Thursday that Iran’s new missile has shocked Israel and Western countries.

The report said that US interceptor systems, including the advanced American anti-missile station at the Nevatim airbase in the Israeli Negev desert, have confirmed Sejjil-2′s precision and other advanced capabilities.

“Iran is at least two or three years ahead of Israel’s missile defenses,” the Israeli website quoted Western military sources as saying.

The 2000-km-range surface-to-surface missile is being seen as a major deterrent against possible attacks against Iran.
